I showed you how to create a special space for yourself (and family) on a very small budget.
How about doing it for even less?
LESS?
yes.
I have, literally , waited my whole adult life to get a white slip-covered sofa. I would drool and dream of one day owning a crisp, plush, cozy Pottery Barn sofa. But, could never afford it. I eventually discovered Ikea and finally got one at a fraction of the price!
Still can’t afford the Ikea version? Don’t have access to an Ikea? Don’t worry. I was there too.
You can still have one!
Have you ever Googled slipcovers? There are a million different make it yourself versions out there. First, I advise you to just sit and read, admire, drool, and really take in every inch of others home made , DIY slip covers.
Then, take your ugly/outdated/hand-me-down sofa. Or, scope out the flea markets, yard sales, family basements, or online classifieds for a cheap place to plant your tush.
(Be careful! If you buy a used sofa, make sure you are really doing the “dirty” work to make sure it’s a clean piece. There are a lot of bedbug cases lately. Just use your best judgment in choosing a good piece.)
I scoped out Craigslist and found this.
haha! I cringe every time I see this photo. Don’t you wish you had smell-o-net right about now?
It really isn’t as bad as it looks. You can read more about it HERE.
You can buy fabric , as cheap as, less than $1 a yard.
…Or more , of course. My advice, look and ask around for fabric outlets. We have about an hour away from where we live and they have amazing prices on fabric!
After you have your “inspiration file” and fabric , you can either wing it and just jump in there , start pinning, and sewing. If that’s the case you will probably need my sewing-best-friend.
A seam ripper. For me, this was my best friend because I made A LOT of mistakes!
Or, you can get some know how, tips, tricks, and advice for when you get stuck.
