We work a lot and with the family to manage, lunches to make, clothes to wash, I’ll admit that my sink almost always has dirty dishes in it! Whatever I could do… I could clean 24/7… I’m pretty convinced that there will always be at least a dirty glass or plate in my sink. If you recognize yourself in that situation then you might be interested to know what is the best way to clean a dishwasher.
Because that’s where the dishwasher usually comes handy… but the dishwasher we have is terrible! I almost have to wash the dishes before washing it again and even worse, it often comes out dirtier then it first was when I put it in!!!
But, I found a great solution to that after trials and errors. Honestly… a lot of errors! I almost even quit and went back to wash the dishes by hand like in the good old days. But, I just simply am not able to keep up. With the family, the new job and all… Somehow that dishwasher had to do its part.
In the hopes to help myself out a little. I tried running cleaning liquid through it, I rubbed it, I even dismantled it. Nothing was working. At one point, I thought that I would throw it out by the window (even though my window’s too small) and buy a new one but these appliances are expensive and we can’t afford it for now.
Since I took the entire dishwasher apart to figure out what was wrong with this thing, I thought I could give it another look. Wow, with an instant I realized what was wrong with my dishwasher. It was all clogged and the cleaner I used just didn’t do it!
I put all the pieces in the bath, filled it just to top the pieces with water and poured a 50/50 ratio of vinegar and boom! All the dirt and calcium started falling off.
Vinegar is magic! It’s one of the greatest cleaning solution ever.
I then put back all the pieces in place, scrubbed all the remaining dirt with a paste made of 1/4 cup of baking soda and a teaspoon of water and then poured two cups of vinegar in the dishwasher, shut the door and started the washing cycle to complete the cleaning!
Now my dishwasher works like a charm thanks to baking soda and vinegar! Imagine! Sometimes overspending on expensive cleaning detergent is not the way to go. That’s, to my own knowledge, the best way to clean a dishwasher.
